Short-term Employment Opportunity (CSJ)                                             

Communications/Archival Assistant

 

Dance Nova Scotia is seeking candidates looking for a short term, multi-faceted experience in the cultural sector. The Communications/Archival Assistant will work with archival material, will assist with the early promotion of National Dance Week, will assist a dance presentation company with tasks related to program promotion/communications as well as assisting with our dance sector survey. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working with and assisting a variety of people through varying tasks and responsibilities. If you are interested in dance, dance programing, dance history and assisting with tasks related to surveying the dance community, this position will be incredibly valuable to you. 

This position is made possible via the Canada Summer Jobs Program. To qualify, all applications must be between the ages of 18 and 30 at the start of employment, be a permanent resident of Canada and be legally entitled to work in Nova Scotia.

The successful candidate will:

  • assist the dance archivist/curator, learning some of the principles of archiving and the specific steps involved in archiving the Dance NS collection through a specified four step procedure - (click here for an overview)
  • work closely with the National Dance Week/International Dance Day Program Co-ordinator, rolling out program information and maintaining the social media activity promoting the event
  • assist an outside professional dance organization with their programming and communications
  • assist the DANS Executive Director and a research consultant with the deployment and gathering results of a survey from the dance community

Qualifications:

  • a background in museum archiving, library science, or history would be an asset
  • experience in public relations within the non-profit sector or arts administration
  • experience with content creation, social media and website management
  • good verbal & written communication skills
  • capable of working independently with little to no supervision at times
  • a passion for dance

Position & Salary Expectations

Starting date is January 4/22 and officially runs to February 25/22  - with a possible four to six week extension
20 hr/week at $15/hour for eight weeks    
This position is onsite at the DANS office located at 1113 Marginal Road, Halifax, NS.
    We follow COVID practices and Proof of Double Vaccination is required
