International Dance Day Message 2022
Every year International Dance Day takes place on April 29th, the last day of National Dance Week which takes place every year from April 22nd to 29th. Each year Dance Nova Scotia invites a member of our provincial dance community to be Nova Scotia's International Dance Day Ambassador. The IDD Ambassador delivers a message of inspiration and the power of dance to all Nova Scotians.
The Nova Scotia Ambassador for 2022 is our youngest ambassador to date. He is Makaio Edwards. This young dancer from Cape Breton has shared with us how dance is his INSPIRATION. His message reminds us all that dance is part of a full and productive life that has benefits physically, mentally and socially.
Let Makaio's wonderful message INSPIRE you to make dance a part of your life.
Each year Dance Nova Scotia encourages our dance community to share the message not just within the dance community, but to everyone. We hope you will stay posted to our National Dance Week/International Dance Day listings that celebrate the dance activities taking place across the province. Remember to follow us on Facebook and here on our website for NDW activities that you can participate in.
Canada's National Dance Week, built around UNESCO's International Dance Day, will be taking place this year from April 22nd until the 29th. During this week communities across the country will be participating in an array of dance-related events promoting not only the importance of creative expression but also the strengthening of community bonds. As shown in a recent New England Journal of Medicine study, dance, more than any other physical activity, contributes largely to brain health and function as well as physical wellness. It also provides a host of other benefits to the individual and community such as social cohesion, creative economy and empowerment of youth. Dance week presents the opportunity to celebrate the many ways in which dance contributes to human existence and reminds us of the significant role it plays within our history and culture.
